Harlem United, a non-profit institution, services HIV positive clients in the upper Manhattan area. The renovation, totaling 15,000 square feet, required all new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. A medical clinic, administrative and social services offices occupy one floor. The multi-purpose dining space and additional group rooms are located on the floor above. A large rear exterior terrace was built outside of the dining space.

Bright tropical colors were used throughout the facility to enliven the modest materials necessitated by the tight budget. The color scheme also reflects the cultural identity of the largely Caribbean client population.
